Funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC), the WITHIN Study will run from Nov 2019-2022.
We are currently looking for individuals aged 18-65 with chronic pain to take part in a lab-based study. This lab-based study is part of the wider WITHIN study, which seeks to understand the roles that mental defeat and mental victory have in underpinning different experiences of chronic pain. If you agree to take part, you will be invited to attend a test session at the University of Warwick Sleep and Pain Laboratory located at the main Central Campus (Coventry) with one of the researchers.
The research team will send you travel directions and greet you upon arrival to take you to the Lab. The test session typically takes no longer than 2.5 hours.
You will be asked to write a separate paragraph about 3 experiences: a time you felt defeated, a time you felt victorious despite the pain, and a neutral memory. During the experiment, we will measure your heart rate and ask you to fill out some short questionnaires. We will also take measures to assess your pain threshold and tolerance.
As a thank you for your time, at the end of the lab-based study you will receive a £20 Amazon voucher!
