Across the half-term week during which the Roller Disco took place, 2,000 Coventry residents put their skates on and stepped into the rink.

People enjoying the roller disco.

The Roller Disco was hosted by SK8 House in Broadgate and was a pop-up location for the Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge – City of Culture Special so customers could skate and scan.

There was a Go CV price available and 68% of skaters made use of this with their discount card.

Each day saw general sessions alongside two special sessions; a quiet session with no music or lights that proved popular for families with disabilities and of certain religions. A sell-out student night was also hosted during the week.

Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member Public Health and Sport, said: “What a brilliant half-term activity this was. We spoke to so many residents throughout the week who told us how much they loved the activity.

“Getting 2,000 residents moving and genuinely enjoying themselves is exactly what we want to see. We saw skaters of all cultures and abilities on the rink and that is ultimately what we aim for – to provide physical activity for all. I can’t wait to see what’s in store next for the people of Coventry.”

Throughout the week, we had hundreds more residents signed up to Go CV to make use of the discounted price for the roller skating.

The MacDonald family who visited the Roller Disco, said: “Thank you to Coventry City Council, Cov Sport and Go CV for organising this wonderful, wonderful event. The kids have really, really enjoyed it.

“It’s wonderful that Cov Sport can organise events for children. I think it’s important that children of all cultures and backgrounds have access to activities and it was so affordable.”

Throughout the week there was a fantastic offering for Coventry residents with the Roller Disco, Monster Trail and Pumpkin Patch which also boasted a Go CV discount, creating a great buzz in the city centre.
