The annual sporting event, Sports Fest is returning for the summer of 2021.
Once again, the city centre will be transformed into a sports haven with a huge variety of activities.
The six-day event will be back in Broadgate from Tuesday 27 July – Sunday 1 August.
The event will have free activities and will feature a wide range of sport and wellbeing activities that are suitable for all ages and abilities.
The activities will be led by a range of community organisations and sports clubs.
Sports Fest falls perfectly in the summer holidays, with activities running from 10am – 4pm each day.
There are opportunities for local clubs and organisations to deliver both sport and wellbeing activity during the event along with ‘Takeover days’ available.
2019 saw the city’s year as European City of Sport, with Sports Fest attracting a huge 14,000 people over 10 days, seeing Coventry residents of all ages and abilities get involved in everything from tennis and boccia with Coventry’s Young Ambassadors, to cricket with Positive Youth Foundation and parkour with Ascension Dance Company.
Coventry’s Year of Wellbeing also took place during 2019, so local charities and organisations hosted stalls throughout the event and offered advice and assistance on a multitude of health topics.
Sports Fest will take place during the Tokyo Olympics, as a further celebration of sport in the city.
Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “I’m thrilled to see that Sports Fest is going to be returning this year. It’s been a really tough time for everyone, so I’m keen to see events that promote health and wellbeing being organised.
“The outdoor event will be a safe environment and taking place at the end of July, we should see restrictions relaxed by then, but we will continue to monitor this.
“Sports Fest is always such a brilliant week and is perfect for the whole family to get active. The event is free and aims to promote healthy lifestyles to all residents.
“2021’s Sports Fest will be a fantastic legacy to Coventry’s year as European City of Sport and I really look forward to the event.”
As a result of the wide variety of activities, there will be opportunities and exit routes into the sports and activities participants have tried during the event.
