The Awards are organised by the charity the Social Work Awards and were held virtually last night.

Alex is the Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children Team Leader, and was one of only 52 practitioners, teams and organisations selected by judges to contest the 11 categories.

And she was given the national title.

Cllr Patricia Seaman, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Massive congratulations to Alex, she is a credit to the Council, and the city. Coventry is known as a city of welcome and sanctuary and that is because of people like Alex.

“I know she doesn’t do what she does for reward, but I am delighted that her hard work and dedication have been recognised. We’re very proud of her.”

John Gregg, Director of Children’s Services, said: “Alex’s achievement is testament to her outstanding hard work and commitment to children.

“It confirms what I already knew that we have many excellent practitioners working across Children’s Services each and every day.  I am immensely proud of Alex’s achievement and am grateful for all the hard work undertaken by each and every person in the Children’s Services team.”

Alex said:  “It is an amazing privilege to win this award, I was already incredibly honoured to be nominated so to win feels amazing! I am really proud of working in the Through Care service but also for Coventry as is a great place to work.

“We have a great team and also really supportive managers and senior managers who have allowed me to be innovative in thinking about how best we support children arriving new into the country. A massive thanks to everyone who has supported me in my work, especially my amazing team.”
