Lord Mayor Cllr Ann Lucas has launched a gofundme page to help boost her civic charity appeal to support victims of domestic abuse.
Throughout her year in office, Cllr Lucas will be raising funds for a wide range of groups across the city, as well as raising awareness of the issue that affects so many – and of the help that is available in the city.
With coronavirus affecting so many charity events and collections, the Lord Mayor has launched the online appeal to help people make a contribution.
Please visit the page to make a donation, and pass on the link to help raise money and awareness.
Cllr Lucas said: “Abuse can take many forms, from controlling and degrading behaviour to violence. It can affect anyone, and unfortunately, it can be hard to spot and difficult for the victims to come forward.
“I hope that in supporting the groups and organisations that tackle domestic violence as my chosen charity for the year, I can do a little to help their work. I also hope to get people talking about the issue. For too many people, domestic abuse is part and parcel of their daily lives and it is present in all of our city’s communities. It is something we need to discuss.”
You can also donate to the Lord Mayor’s charity by sending a cheque payable to the ‘Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal’ to The Lord Mayor’s Office, Council House, Earl Street, Coventry CV1 5RR, or use the online payment system. Please make sure you select ‘Council and democracy’ and then ‘Lord Mayor’s donations’ from the drop-down list.
If you, or someone you know, is suffering through domestic abuse, you can find support at www.safetotalk.org.uk/. The Safe to Talk helpline is also available Monday to Friday 8.30am – 5.30pm and Saturday to Sunday, 10am – 1pm. For support call 0800 111 4998.
