A local lollipop lady was awarded with a special treat hamper and the title of Coundon Court School’s Community Hero following a community cohesion campaign.
Max Conkleton – who is a school crossing patrol officer for Hollyfast Primary School – was awarded the prize after securing almost 50% of the vote from pupils at Coundon Court, who also commented on how much they valued her friendliness and help on the way to and from school.
Cllr Ann Lucas, Lord Mayor of Coventry, praised Max and her role in the community. She said: “People make places, and Max is clearly someone who makes Coundon a really special place. I was so thrilled to hear her story, and how much the pupils and community of Coundon Court value her.
“Well done to all of the organisers of the project, the pupils who voted for their community hero – and of course, well done to Max who makes such a difference every day.”
The idea for the prize was created as part of Coundon Court’s efforts to strengthen links in the local community and develop a more outward-looking focus.
Cleo Abberley, Coundon Court School’s director of community cohesion, said: “Our school is perfectly positioned to help the community in Coundon.”
“We’ve got over 1700 of the area’s young people, so we’re closely linked to many of Coundon’s families already, but we really want to do more to make sure that the school is of benefit to everyone in the area by creating opportunities for projects that will make a positive difference.”
“Recognising some of the people that make Coundon a great place to be was one of the first steps, and Max was a worthy winner, as she has a smile for everybody and makes a massive difference for so many come rain or shine – we were thrilled to be able to honour her with a hamper for everything she does.”
The team at the school spoke to local families and businesses to raise awareness of the prize, find nominees and secure donations for the hamper.
Coundon Court School are looking to hear from residents and businesses in the local area who have ideas about how the school could help to improve community cohesion. If you would like to be involved, please contact [email protected] to find out more.
