The Lord Mayor of Coventry Cllr John McNicholas called in for one of his regular COVID-19 tests – and urged others to make sure they are testing twice a week.
The Lord Mayor and his Lady Mayoress, his wife June, took a Lateral Flow Test.
They are both taking the time to keep to guidelines and take two tests a week.
The Lord Mayor said: “We know that testing is essential, especially for those of us who have to go into work and meet people in public settings.
“One of the great joys of being Lord Mayor is visiting the different communities in the city and meeting residents. Obviously that has been difficult in recent months, but now with restrictions easing, it is possible to get out more.
“With that freedom though, we must remember to do all we can to keep ourselves and others safe, and Lateral Flow Tests are essential. They are very quick and easy and the teams at our Community Testing Centres do a wonderful job and make the whole process very smooth and stress-free.
“Myself and June have also picked up some of the home-testing kits, which really are very simple to use, and we will work hard to make sure we take our tests twice a week. I would urge others to please do the same and help contain the spread of COVID.”
Everyone is recommended to take the twice-weekly tests, including those who have had both vaccines, as well as keep to all guidelines around social distancing and face coverings..
There are lots of options available, depending on your individual situation. NHS England’s site finder allows you to search for local pharmacies and testing centres near you that offer collection of home testing kits. There are also three static test sites in Coventry where you can access assisted rapid testing.
For people who can’t access tests through the other routes, you can also order a box of tests online through LFD direct or through 119, which will be delivered to your home.
Full details of testing, vaccines and guidelines are available on the Council’s website.
