The RSPCA is to stage a fundraising family fun day and dog show – with the Lord Mayor of Coventry presenting the trophy to Best in Show.

The show will be held at Finham Park School in Green Lane on 3 April, and all are welcome – those on two legs and four.

It will feature eight classes, including: Playful Pup (under one), Golden Oldie (12 +), Best Rescue, Most Looks Like Owner, Best Biggun’, Best Smallun’, Best Girl, and Best Boy.

The winners of each class will go on to compete for the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Coventry’s Best in Show.

Lord Mayor Cllr John McNicholas, is a keen supporter of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, and during his year in office he is helping to raise awareness of the issues, as well as funds.

He said: “The work of the RSPCA in Coventry makes a massive difference to the welfare of animals in the city. The people there do amazing, caring work and it is an honour to support them in any way I can.

“Our pets are so loyal and loving, and a part of the family, and I hope people will come out and support the fun day and enter their dogs, or just bring them along to be part of the day.

“All the money raised will go to make a difference to the lives of animals in need and help care for them and find them loving new homes.”

The entry fee is £2 per dog per class, and £1 admission per person at the gate (dogs with docked tail or cropped ears cannot be entered).

The show runs from 12.30pm-3.30pm.
