Six Coventry residents were randomly chosen from the entries for the giveaway.

The prizes included a smart fitness watch, wireless earphones and high-street vouchers which all contribute to maintaining an active lifestyle. Plus, there were treats up for grabs in the form of two Afternoon Tea for two vouchers at Coombe Abbey Hotel.

The giveaway was launched to encourage safe physical activity throughout the recent UK lockdown in parks across the city, and to give residents a little excitement during the difficult time we are still experiencing.

Coventry resident, Chloe, entered the competition in Coombe Country Park and was overjoyed to have won first prize. She said: “I entered the giveaway in my local park near my family home as it was lovely to see something positive happening in Coventry despite it being a very topsy turvy time.

“My partner and I just decided to have a go!”.

Coventry resident, Hannah, won second prize and entered the competition in Lake View Park. She said: “I decided to enter as I use a number of the parks for exercise and for walking my dog Sarah!

“It’s great to have so many green spaces around Coventry and we’re really lucky to have such inspiring places to visit.  I’m thrilled to win a prize in the giveaway, and it will help me keep up my walking for my health and mental wellbeing.”

Go Parks Giveaway winner, Nagaraj entered the competition at Radford Recreation Ground. He said: “I am very thankful for being selected for this prize.

“It’s a good initiative from Coventry City Council to keep us active, safe and to support our local park to bring everything from sport and physical activity to wellbeing and cultural elements into our local park.”

Each of the 18 wards in the city had at least one Go Parks Giveaway banner so nobody would miss out.

The giveaway was open to all Coventry residents and allowed those of all abilities and fitness levels to take part.

Cllr Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “I’m so pleased to see the six winners have received their prizes for the Go Parks Giveaway.

“It has been brilliant to see the giveaway take place during this difficult time. We want to see residents continue to maintain their physical and mental health, so rewarding people for walking, running and keeping active in a safe environment has hopefully created some excitement for people.

“The prizes are fantastic, while we have those that will help the winners maintain physical activity, we also have a special Afternoon Tea treat the winners will be able to share with a loved one at Coombe Abbey Hotel too.

“I hope the winners enjoy their prizes and I look forward to seeing another Go Parks Giveaway soon.”

Ron Terry, General Manager of Coombe Abbey Hotel, said: “The Go Parks Giveaway was a great competition for people to enjoy when they visited parks around Coventry and we were only too happy to support by offering the Afternoon Tea vouchers.

“A huge congratulations to all of the winners and we look forward to welcoming those who were awarded the Afternoon Teas as their prizes next year.”
