Come along for the stride – here’s how to get a free senior gym pass

27 March @ 6:00 am - 31 March @ 3:00 pm

Free

A local sports centre is offering free passes to over 65s to encourage more seniors to keep fit and embrace the benefits of exercise.

The Warwick Sport Active Senior Open Week will take place from Monday 27th – Friday 31st March, where over 65s in Coventry and the surrounding area will have access to a range of state-of-the-art facilities at the University of Warwick’s Sports and Wellness Hub – for free.

The carefully devised Active Senior Open Week entitles all over 65s to unlimited off-peak access* to the gym, swimming pool and activity programme for older adults. In addition, attendees will be able to take advantage of a 15% discount at the on-site Caffè Nero – a great way to relax and unwind after a workout.

The Sports and Wellness Hub, which is home to a state-of-the-art gym and easy access 12 lane 25m swimming pool, has devised a tailored activity programme for older adults which promotes wellbeing and encourages older adults to meet new friends. From table tennis and strength sessions, through to climbing and badminton, the exclusive pre-bookable sessions will also be available to those who claim a free Active Senior Open Week pass.

Iain McKinney, Head of Sports Delivery at the Sports and Wellness Hub, said: “We know how daunting it can seem to try and keep active at any stage of life, but the psychological and physical health benefits from doing so are incredible. With our dedicated Active Senior membership, it is easier and more accessible for older adults to keep fit.

“Here at the Sports and Wellness Hub, we welcome people of all ages and sporting abilities – we have regular swimmers in their 80s who have uncovered the benefits of gentle exercise on their health. We also have people who have been climbing for decades and who continue to do so for the social aspect.

“Exercise is a great way to release endorphins, lower blood pressure, increase strength and flexibility and meet new people. Our Active Senior Open Week provides older adults considering a gym membership with the opportunity to try our facilities and find the right wellbeing solution to suit their needs.”
