Blindspot Nigh

11 September @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

£4 – £6.

What is Blindspot Nights?
Blindspot Nights is a new scratch night supporting working/under-class theatermakers in the Midlands. This month we’re bringing two new plays, ‘The Exchange’ by Steve Nijjar and ‘Money Jobs’ by Sinéad Brady to The Tin at the Coal Vaults in Coventry.

We are proudly ACE funded which enables us to pay each artist in each show the ITC/Equity minimum rate for their performances. We strive to be a new and exciting opportunity for artists and audiences to be a part of how new theatre in the region takes shape.
All our events are BSL interpreted. For more information on accessibility, please visit our website: www.blindspotnights.co.uk/access

This months shows:
‘The Exchange’, by Steve Nijjar
In ‘The Exchange’, a working class Indian man decides to throw his graduate son out of the family home for his inexcusable thug-like behaviour. But the tide turns when the son reveals he now knows that his dad exchanged him at birth. ‘The Exchange’ explores the treatment of women, and the Indian obsession of parents wanting a boy over a girl. The reasons? The boy brings riches, stability in old age, and moreover, a bloodline. The girl brings worry, a duty to keep her safe and secure, a financial drain due to her education, marriage and dowry. The girl is a liability, a burden, the boy a blessing. Research during an Oxford University study found that over 1500 girls have ‘gone missing’ from birth statistics in England and Wales. Where did they go?

‘Money Jobs’, by Sinéad Brady

‘Money Jobs’ is a set of monologues by Sinéad Brady about women finding absurd ways to cope in work environments ruled by neoliberalism with little room for empathy. Each monologue has come from a place of wanting to change the broken system they are set in – a university, a supermarket, and a school – told through Sinéad’s personal coping mechanism, comedy. Sinéad Brady is a performer, poet and writer from Coventry. Sinéad’s writing and performance style plays with language and the body to tell political, funny and heartfelt stories, hoping to bring people together to imagine a more curious, caring world.
