Coventry half-term Dippy the dinosaur ‘meet and greet’ to be held at museum

Various events for kids will be held to celebrate Dippy’s year at Herbert Art Gallery & Museum

Coventry’s Herbert Art Gallery & Museum will be holding events this month to mark Dippy the dinosaur’s one year anniversary at the venue. On loan from the Natural History Museum for at least three years, Dippy has proven to be popular with families in Coventry, with visitor figures doubling at the museum in almost a year.

The Big Dippy Birthday Bash this half term will host activities, educational programming and events throughout the day, on Wednesday, February 14. Events include the return of Dinosaur Experiences which gives kids the chance to meet Dippy’s dino-pals including Bronwen the Brontosaurus, in a live, interactive and Roarsome show.

Throughout the day there will be family-friendly fossil handling, dino-stories on the hour, model making with mod-roc. There is also a chance to grab a special Dippy souvenir from our guest balloon twister.

Visitors will also get the opportunity to transform into a junior archaeologist by learning how fossils are uncovered. And for those who love the scientific side of dinosaurs, there is an opportunity to join scientists from the University of Warwick who will tell you all about the world of bones and how we can learn so much about how Dippy lived just by studying its skull.
