Councillor David Welsh has been named the city’s new Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities.
Cllr Welsh previously served as Deputy for the role, and has also served as Deputy Cabinet Member for Jobs and Regeneration.
He succeeds Cllr Tariq Khan, who resigned from the post last week.
Cllr Welsh is a Labour councillor representing the city’s St Michael’s ward. He has served on the Council for the past 10 years.
He also serves on the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Transport Delivery Committee.
Cllr Welsh said: “It is a great honour to be selected for a Cabinet Member post, and I am particularly pleased to serve in the area of Housing and Communities.
“This is such a key area for the city and one that has seen a great deal of work by the Council and our partners. I look forward to continuing with that work and helping to make this area even stronger.”
Cllr George Duggins, Leader of Coventry City Council, said: “I am delighted to appoint David to this very important position.
“As deputy for the role, he already has a great deal of knowledge and expertise and I know he will be able to hit the ground running and carry on with the considerable strides made in this portfolio over the last few years.”
