Coventry residents and schools are entering the challenge daily by scanning the Go Parks QR code during their walk to a local park.

Each scan supports local schools to win physical activity related prizes.

The challenge not only allows Coventry residents to get active safely and use their daily exercise locally, but it also supports their mental and physical wellbeing during this difficult time.

The free-to-enter challenge is in partnership with Coventry East and West School Games organisers who host sport and physical activity competitions across Coventry’s schools.

Cllr Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “I’m so impressed to see we already have over 1,000 entries in the challenge.

“I’ve seen families and teachers all over social media sending in their photos with the Go Parks banners on their walks. It’s great to see so many people with a smile on their face during such a tough time.

“Teachers are doing a fantastic job of encouraging their pupils to take part too. It’s really important the children have something that supports their mental and physical health which can be challenging during home-schooling, but this competition does just that.

“I’d like to wish all the schools luck in the rest of the competition and remind everyone to stay safe while taking part and exercising in our local parks.”

Together with Coventry’s School Games organisers, the challenge also supports this week’s national Children’s Mental Health Week campaign too.

School Games Organiser from Coventry West, Danny Kingham, said: “Schools are doing a great job and not to mention the efforts parents and guardians are making to take their children to the parks to take part too. It’s really lovely to see everyone supporting each other right now.”

Stuart Davoile, School Games Organiser from Coventry East, added: “We are over the moon to see so many entries before the first week of the challenge is even complete. Each week we are introducing new themes and activities so we hope to see the entries continue to rise.”

The Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge is running from 1- 28 February and is open to all Coventry schools and residents.

There are over 40 participating parks in the city, with all 18 wards covered.

Over 18’s can scan the QR code. Parents, guardians and family members may enter on behalf of their children.

Please adhere to all government guidelines while exercising in parks.

One entry per person, per day.
