Community clean-up groups are coming together this weekend to join in a 24-hour clean-up of the city.
The city-wide charity event, this Saturday (31 July), is organised by Hearsall Litterbusters working closely with Coventry Clean-Up, The Big Clean-Up and Coventry City Council. It will be an opportunity to raise vital funds for the Samaritans and raise for money for the Samaritans. You can donate by going to their Just Giving page.
Sophie Williams from the Hearsall Litterbusters, who is organising the event, says that anyone is welcome to join in with the group and, although the event runs from Midday Saturday to 12pm Sunday, people can join in for however long.
Sophie came up with the idea after seeing large scale clean-ups in rural areas of the Peak District and coastal areas around the country.
She said: “I’m really excited about the 24 Hour Litterpick for Samaritans and proud to be a part of it.
“Over the past year the Hearsall Litterbusters has allowed me to meet some incredibly wonderful and inspiring people, and I can’t wait to join with them to raise some money for a really worthwhile cause.
“With so many people struggling with their mentally wellbeing during the pandemic, being part of a litter picking group brings people together in a very positive way.”
Around £730 has already been raised for the Samaritans ahead of the event on Saturday.
Sophie added: “We would love to welcome more people to join us either over the weekend or for future litter picks.”
The group will start the event at the canal basin at 12pm and make their way through different areas of Coventry such as Ball Hill, Gosford Green and others before ending the 24-hour marathon effort on Allesley Old Road.
